How Do You Feel about Men Complimenting Your Legs?
How Do You Feel about Men Complimenting Your Legs
?
Here's a question for the ladies out there. When you wear a skirt or a dress (www.ourdressshop.com.), do you like to hear compliments on your legs, or would you rather we men kept our comments to ourselves?
Compliments are always a nice gesture! That being said, the delivery may sometimes be a different story. Just plainly and nicely commenting on an attractive feature can NEVER be offensive, although I have noticed that more and more people seem to look for issues of sexual harassment. Telling me I look nice or beautiful or have nice legs will never offend me, unless they were accompanied by demeaning gestures or noises or phrases. I have received many compliments, even with a male companion present and neither of us was in any way, shape or form taken aback but rather appreciative and flattered. I have received compliments at work and thought nothing of it other than that it was a nice gesture.
I can see how being complimented on a body part at work could be strange if you are a superior, but I have a hard time believing that you cannot seem competent and knowledgeable AND receive a compliment gracefully without it turning into an uncomfortable event. I do not feel inferior to a man paying me a compliment. This issue may be way more personal and dependent on somebody's personality or personal convictions, etc. than I initially thought. I know about the laws that you can be complimented on i.e. your outfit but not on your person, or it may be considered sexual harassment. I also feel that this harassment thing has snowballed out of proportion. I do not feel sexually harassed or degraded or somehow inferior if some male or female coworker compliments me. I just do not.
I am in a relationship and mentioned that I have received compliments with the partner present. I did not feel that it was strange, but that, too, may have to do with the people involved and their ideas and also, as I initially stated, with the delivery. For instance, one of my or my partner's colleagues coming up to us and saying that I look wonderful or stunning will not leave a bad aftertaste with either involved. If somebody came up and said i.e. "Nice a..!" it would be a different story, but I do not consider that a compliment. That would be an inappropriate evaluation at best.
I personally do not automatically assume a man is hitting on me, when they pay me a compliment. I may be wrong, but since such an action would require a reaction on my part of go anywhere, it will probably never be a problem. So as it stands, I just smile and thank the person and that is it. No harm, no foul. Find more sexy skirts or dresses at www.ourdressshop.com.
