How Do You Get Rid Of Cold Sores?
Getting rid of cold sores is never easy and the many so-called treatment solutions
available on the market seem largely ineffective in terms of actually bringing about a cure. The fact of the matter is that once the cold sore has taken hold, there really is little you can do expect to try to ease the symptoms somewhat. Regardless of what you read in the magazines or the Internet, a true cure for cold sores is simply non-existent.
So what can you do about getting rid of cold sores? Are all those products available on the market useless? Not entirely. Some of the better products from reliable manufacturers can actually be tremendously beneficial in terms of reducing the pain and discomfort that are so often a part of a cold sore attack. Although most people are mortified at the thought of getting a cold sore due to the social implications-they are, after all, quite embarrassing for many people-it is the pain and discomfort that actually causes the most distress.
Topical solutions are actually quite helpful for many people, even if they don't actually get rid of cold sores. Some over-the-counter solutions can help soothe the pain in the affected area, making the healing process go by much quicker. While there is little hope of actually getting rid of cold sores once they have taken hold, it will make it easier for you to deal with condition while waiting for it to clear up.
Like all health conditions, it is always better to prevent the sores from occurring in the first place as opposed to trying to get rid of cold sores after the infection had already set in. Even if you do still end up getting infected, finding ways to prevent cold sores may help reduce the severity of the condition.
So how do you prevent cold sores? What can you do when cold sore season comes around and you already have a long track record of developing the condition at crucial times of the year? More importantly, how do you prevent cold sores when you know of someone you are close to who already is infected or worse, lives in your own home? Basic personal hygiene can actually be your best option at this point, and you should do everything possible to avoid picking up the virus.
You should also avoid physical contact with the infected person even after the marks have begun to fade away, and do not under any circumstances share your personal belongings. Sharing your toothbrush and razor is out of the question of course, but you would be surprised at how many people follow this basic procedure and yet think nothing of sharing towels or pillows.
Since the development of cold sores is thought to be related to stress, it would be a good idea to avoid it as much as possible or to at least find a way to reduce the negative effects it has on your health. Take your vitamins and minerals daily, and make sure to get plenty of rest.
