How Do You Repair A Damaged Tree Bark?

The tough exterior surface of a tree referred to as the bark protects the tree from

getting damaged by a number of insects and some environmental conditions. If a large chunk has been removed from your bark you will need to locate that portion to initiate repairs. Get the section that has come out, cut a bit of duct tape and secure the piece to the tree using the duct tape. Place your duct tape around the tree with the portion in place to make certain that it will hold. This should stay put during rainy seasons because of the bonding strength of duct tape. However, if it starts falling off merely replace the previous duct tape with some new duct tape. This will be left in place for three months and not much longer as the tape can actually damage the existing tree bark. During this time look in on the tree to ensure that it is healing properly. Basically once the tape is removed the bark should sit on the tree without needing the tape.

If you cannot find the missing bark, or there is none, just a large enough area left without bark coverage you will need to nurture the wound to incite rapid healing. Depending on the blight to the area you will need to smooth out the bit with a knife or blade. Remove any jagged pieces and then construct an eye shape on your damaged portion with the tops and bottom being narrow and the middle being wide. The tree will heal rapidly and should not fall prey to its injury. During this period insectsmay be able to hide in the wound and infect the tree therefore you may wish to spray that section with a bit of insecticide to get rid of any eggs that may hide in this susceptible segment. When the tree has restored itself this will not be a big concern.

You may consider utilizing a store bought healing solution. It works by creating a protective layer over the tree after you spray the contents from the can. Basically it works similarly to a sealant. It is not guaranteed that this will promote healing and this may even have the potential to destroy the existing tissue. However, you may attempt it if the methods here do not seem useful in your situation. The worst thing that can occur is that the tree dies as it may well have anyway.

Tip

Try to get your tree fixed as soon as you realize any signs of damage, the longer you wait to attend to this issue the more probable your tree is to die. However, some minor bark damage will correct itself, yet it is best not to leave it to nature if you may intervene productively.
