Those interested in using fabric printing however will probably want to know how it works, particularly the process of dye sublimation.

Sublimation in a Nutshell

To state it simply, matter is a phase that is decided by the space between atoms at the subatomic level. Solids are one of the most common types, and they are created with tightly packed atoms, unlike liquid. The amount of pressure applied to the substance will determine the phase, and if you apply enough pressure for it to change multiple phases you can force a solid to skip the liquid phase and move directly to the gas phase. This is what we call sublimation.

Breakdown of Sublimation

In a dye sublimination printer there are four ribbons with three different colors:

Cyan

Yellow

Magenta

The fourth ribbon does not hold a color, but rather the lamination material, and finally there is the thermal printing head. Throughout this process, print rollers move the thermal printing head over the ribbons, and through sublimation, the dye within the ribbon will change directly from solid to gas form, permeating the material used.

The process will need to be repeated four times as only one ribbon is used at any given time. Once the process is actually complete, you will have the option of creating virtually any type of signage you desire.
