How I Use Online Newspaper Ads To Sell My Home

There are old-fashioned ways and new-fangled ways to sell my home

, and of course I use all of them all the time! The easiest thing I do is get online and post ads describing my home in juicy detail so that anyone who reads my ad and is looking for a home like mine cannot wait to give me a call!

Now, you may ask, how do I write online classified ads that sound so enticing? I have a secret to share about that. It's not complicated, but it's a little bit hard. It requires that I set aside the way I see my home right now, the way I think and feel about it (especially since I'm getting ready to sell it) and remember how I saw my home when I first saw it and wanted to buy it. That takes a shift of perspective, but over the years I've been buying and selling homes I've learned how to do this pretty well. The more I do it, the easier it gets. Why don't you give it a try right now Pretend you're just seeing your home for the first time and look at it through fresh eyes. See the good qualities that attracted you and made you want to buy it. Then write about those things in your ad.

Write about things like: 1. Plenty of cabinet storage in the kitchen

2. Built-in ironing board in laundry area

3. Great neighborhood with plenty of kids

4. Backyard garden full of perennials

5. Flagstone patio with big shade trees

6. Unique landscaping around front of house Just go ahead and write in sentences as though you are writing a letter to a friend, or an email.

That's the way we do it these days, isn't it? Pretend you're writing an email and describing your home to people who far away, telling them everything you would want them to know if they weren't going to see the home in person right away. Pictures are good, but they simply do not show everything. Your enthusiastic description will be the best sales tool, really.

When I am writing in order to sell my home I just write and write until I cannot think of another thing to say, and then I start turning my writing into lists like the one above. Make sure to leave in all the juicy details as you were describing in your email letter, but turn your descriptions in to numbered features.

I place online ads on craigslist and on our local TV stations' websites. There are a few local online classified websites as well. Some of them are free and some have a small cost.
