You will need to ask your partner to allow you to have the chance to explain yourself and defend your honor. If you were not at fault, then hopefully, once you can discuss this issue and defend yourself, your partner will truly believe your word. Mature singles that are trying to have a strong committed relationship oftentimes run into problems like this, but if they are not resolved, the relationship can be ruined.

On the other hand, sometimes your partner is right to be questioning your honesty. Maybe you have been dishonest. In cases like these you should really examine yourself and your partner to see if either of you are ready to be mature about dating. If you really want to have a mature dating relationship, then you need to acknowledge the truth to yourself and then confess it to your partner. If you are not willing to take personal responsibility for your actions, then you have a real problem. Your partner will have a hard time trusting you again (if you had really lied and messed up big), but if you take responsibility and try to genuinely make amends, then you will be able to knock down the wall between you that the offense had created. Of course, no one is perfect, not you, not your partner, not anyone. Yet when we lie to someone, especially someone who loves us and really trusts us, it hurts and takes some time to reconcile and trust again. But its not impossible to be back on track in the future with a mature dating relationship, with a goal of a long-term commitment.

Is it possible that your partner will not believe you once you actually tell the truth or even believe you when you say that you were telling the truth all along? That's an affirmative to both situations. Yet, you need to do your best to be honest and genuine and work towards restoration of the relationship. It is possible that your partner will be so distraught over the lie you told or did not tell, that he or she will not be able to bear continuing on in the relationship. If that is the case, then you will be better off anyway if you break up because if your partner can not somehow find a way to work through the pain over your lie, then he or she has a problem. If he or she just wont believe you, even when presented with all of the facts, then its highly likely that he or she has an ulterior motive and may be using this as a scapegoat to get out of the relationship.
