We all know how vitally important Internet marketing can be for an online business, but how important is it for a company that is wholly based off-line? That's what I'd like to talk about in this article today.
Many off-line businesses don't spend much time thinking about Internet marketing at all, and if they do, they usually don't spend a lot of time thinking about it. They probably treat it like something that they'll get around to doing someday, or something that's not particularly important right now.
The fact of the matter is, Internet marketing can be vitally important even if your company is based completely off-line.
I once knew a dentist didn't spend any money on advertising on the Internet or on any other forms of Internet marketing whatsoever. He couldn't understand why his business needed to. After all, his patients have to physically come into his office and sit down on his dental chair in order for him to work on them. What would he possibly sell online?
That's what gets a lot of people into trouble, they think they have to sell something online in order to take advantage of marketing there. Nothing could be further from the truth! The Internet is a great way to get the word out about your business and drive customers to your store in the real world.
In the example of my dentist friend, he finally realized (after much prodding and pushing from yours truly) that hundreds and possibly thousands of people go online to find information about local dentists. Even if it's just to find the phone number to their local dentist, you can't afford not to be there with a website of your own pointing towards your business.
And it doesn't matter what business you're in either. I've seen grain elevators benefit from creating an online presence, and I've seen tree groomers and lawn mowers benefit as well. It really doesn't matter what you do in your company, if you're not spending a significant time focusing on Internet marketing, you're missing out on a fortune worth of new business.
So what should a regular brick-and-mortar type company do? The first thing to do is create a web presence and this can be done by building a simple website with your company information and contact information. From there you can begin to build a community, possibly by offering a free newsletter or participating in different social media such as Facebook or twitter.
From there it's a matter of simply marketing in different ways, you might try offering a free coupon of some sort online or hold a contest of some sort. My best advice is to find somebody locally that you can work with who will take care of this stuff for you in exchange for a consultation fee. It's very easy to keep track of the cost versus benefits of this sort of thing and I'm sure that in no time at all to see exactly what I mean.
