How India Is Faring In World Sports And Olympics

India, the second largest populated country, is a talent-house for many fields

. The demand and opportunities for these talented people is all around the globe. Indians have respectably excelled in all walks of life. But in our cricket fanatic nation, we often fail to produce great athletes, a judgment reflected in its relatively poor showing at the Olympics.

The local Indians are ever awaiting gold and glory from these fighting-for-fame athletes. Although, our highly potential athletes have tasted Asian and national success, they often fail to convert their potential into performance at major World events. The dedication and focus of these athletes is often questioned by many, but what they tend to overlook is the true factors of failure.

The sports scene in India, except for cricket, needs more attention and respect by the sports officials and people. The need to invest in these not-so-followed sports is also very desperate. Youngsters who are already playing the sport, should be encouraged and given a proper guidance by our experienced officials. Stadiums should become closer to international standards to help athletes practice in a more systematic and focused way.

Athletes who have shone in previous world events often crib about the low recognition they earn in spite of their achievements. Such a growing discomfort among the successful athletes often shrinks the spirit of the upcoming ones. Government should sincerely appreciate the efforts and rare achievements of these athletes with a more open and generous heart, not in terms of money alone.

The foundation of these rarely appreciated physical games should also be made more strong. The school level sports associations never put as much effort, time and money as such sports deserve and need for producing successful athletes. The Indian athletes often end up with low-paying government jobs after retirement. This also scares off upcoming athletes to invest their time, money and efforts in these games. All we need to do is treat, respect and recognize all sportsmen alike. If some of these steps are employed, then maybe India can win a few gold medals in the years ahead.
