How Much Is A Diamond Ring

Well to answer this question one must look at the cost of the individual items required in order to produce the final product.

A diamond ring consists of the metal for the mount itself, the diamond or diamonds which are set in it and the labour costs in order to produce it.

The labour costs are to be divided into those of the goldsmith, who will make the ring, either industrially cast or fully hand made, the diamond setter who will set the diamonds within the ring, the polisher who will fully finish the ring by giving it its shine.

A diamond ring, in order for it not to crack when worn under normal usage should not weigh less than around 2.5 grams of either gold or 3 grams of platinum, the final weight will depend on the selected style so in terms of gold bullion price one would be looking at around 50 per gram so the minimum price would be around 125.

To that one must add the labour costs which are, for industrially produced cast rings around 50 and for individually hand crafted rings around 250.

Then we come to the setting process which will depend on the size and shape of the diamond(s) and the type of setting the style of diamond ring has. This will be around 30 for a simple round diamond within four claws.

The polishing stage will cost an extra 25 and there may be some extra costs for rhodiating to white gold.

One can therefore say that without the cost of the diamond the minimum price for a quality 18ct gold ring will be around the 235.

Of course if one wants a 14ct or even 9ct gold ring the cost can be reduced further but perhaps by 50 at the most.

A diamond ring with any sort of class to it must contain at least 0.20cts of diamonds or a single solitaire diamond of the same weight. This can cost, depending on quality, anywhere between 100 to 300 which will bring the whole to around 335 and even less if cheap smaller diamonds are used and the diamond weight and quality therefore is reduced.
