The system will calculate for the costs, taxes, and offer several methods how consumers would like to pay for the items.
A traditional point of scale uses a stationary computer which has POS software installed. It has peripherals such as receipt printer, mouse, credit card readers, touch screen, drawers and bar code detector. A traditional POS system has hardware and software. The computer and its peripheral comprise the hardware of POS system. Examples of POS software are Linux and Windows. At present, contemporary forms of POS system rises, which are the Web-based POS which makes use of Internet, and Mobile POS that uses smart phones and tablets as mobile computers.
Multiple retail stores and other businesses such as restaurants and hotels have been utilizing POS system. In the system, the information is in sync even in varying locations, keeping it easy to track sales and inventory.
Hence, point of sale system is more advantageous and more convenient than the traditional cash register. It simplifies financial transaction between producers and consumers. POS Managers can analyze and review sales. Because it is computer-controlled, it avoids task duplication and increases efficiency in inventorying items, thus, saves time and money.
