How Post Press Finishing Gives Final Touch To Printed Material
Finishing to printed material determines as how it will look ultimately
. Hence, every material when printed is finished appropriately. For this purpose various types of methods are employed in post press phase (after pre press and press) using different machines. Each of the methods is meant for specific purpose and is chosen as per the requirement of a project. These methods are accomplished precisely in a way that even the possibilities of simple human errors are eliminated. Also, if there is any error left unattended in the printing press phase, in post press phase they can be rectified. Here are some different common methods of post press finishing that gives completely different feel to the printed material.
UV Coating
To obtain glaze and fine lustrous effect on printed material, UV coating is used. This method is used in leaflets, pamphlets, visiting cards and on any product that demands extra luster. UV coating can also deliver Spot UV effect wherein only a particular part, a specific design, font or colour of the printed material are to be highlight.
Water based Varnishing
Water based varnishing is also called blister coating which is primarily used to provide a printed material lustrous or glossy effect. Water based varnishing also to make the surface scratch proof. For this method various varnishing machines are used like AutoPrint FineCoat 80 that provides superb finishing to the final printed package and product.
Lamination
Lamination is another post press finishing technique which is though similar to varnish, but it provides more shine and hence richer appearance compared to varnish. Lamination is preferred for commercial products like where sophisticated packaging is required such as cosmetics, perfumes, designer brochures and invitation cards.
Die Punching
Die punching method is not just subject to punching, but also cutting, creasing etc. Embossed effect can be also obtained from die punching using machines such as Hiedelberg Cylinder, Polar Mohr Eltromat etc.
Foil stamping
Foil stamping delivers rich, glossy and metallic effect to the printed paper. Foil can be stamped in any required shape, font and design on the printing package and material. Machine like Kluge EHD is used for the purpose. Foil stamping is perfect for wedding invitation cards, FMCG packaging, cosmetic and perfume packages, etc.
Folding
As the name suggests, folding entails folding of any paper or cardboard into different patterns. Automatic Insert Folding Machines are used for the purpose and is quite useful for medical inserts, notebooks, textbooks, magazines, brochures, etc.
Embossing
Embossing refers to the design effect that raises or lowers any particular design shape or text on the paper. Embossing is though use for printing Braille on pharmaceuticals, but they are now also used to deliver design effect or to highlight any particular text in post press phase.
