How Preventing Gum Disease can Prevent Heart Disease!

Everyone knows that you should take care of your teeth. What a lot of people don't realize is that gum disease and an unhealthy mouth have been linked to more serious diseases!

It's true. Research has shown that if you have an unhealthy mouth- whether it's full of cavirites, gum disease, "hairy tongue", or anything else- you're more likely to develop a more deadly disease such as heart disease or cancer.

Why? There are a number of reasons, but the main one is that you are allowing loads of bacteria and unwanted junk into your body through your mouth!

So how can you prevent these from happening? Well most people know that flossing and brushing are the two most important things you can do. But of those two, flossing is generally neglected.

The sad thing is, flossing is much more important than brushing in the long run. A lot of dentists, if asked, would tell you they'd rather you floss and not brush, than brush and not floss. The main reason is simple- your mouth will naturally flush away and break down most food particles that are in the easy-to-reach parts of your mouth (on the front, back, and top of your teeth).

However, it's much harder for your mouth to naturally get rid of the gunk between your teeth without a little bit of help! That's where flossing comes in, and why it is more recommended than brushing.

Another thing to consider is killing the bacteria in your mouth. Although brushing and flossing help get some out, there are still millions of cells that continue to live and thrive! Getting out this bacteria goes a long way to prevent gum disease and cavities.

Using some form of mouthwash is highly recommended. Some people use Listerine, some use hydrogen peroxide mixed with water. Whatever works for you!

Just make sure you take care of your teeth so you have them for years to come.

If you or someone you know is looking for a new dentist, consider having them check out a site such as Dentist in Anaheim or Dentist in Glendale.
