With today's technology, excimer lasers now use eye tracking systems so the laser will not blast when the patient is not looking at the target.

After the operation, a bandage contact lens will be applied on the cornea to speed up the healing process. Within one week, the corneal epithelium is expected to regrow as part of the healing process. This period will result to discomfort, fuzzy, and fluctuating vision for the patient. Topical antibiotics and lubricants need to be applied to the eyes at steady intervals to preclude likely infections and downplay irritation.
