Consider it the pre-evolutionary material of cloud computing. Cloud computing refers to the new technological developments that will allow a PC to be, well, little more than a window of sorts. All the real computing will be done miles away on a high powered machine, which we will all be able to access through high speed internet.

It sounds crazy, but with remote computing, you can actually use the web to access your home computer from your laptop or your phone. This means that if you forgot to send that report off this morning but you're several miles from home, you can just log on and send it off. Easy as that. This means that your schedule is much more open, as you don't have to be chained to your desk all day.

Of course, some services are more secure than others, but for the most part, you can rely on your service to allow you, and only you, to access anything on your computer at any time of day, without fear of hackers or identity thieves taking a peek into what you're doing. As long as the wireless network you're accessing your home computer from is secure, your connection to the computer will be secure, as well.

Let's say you're on a business trip to Hong Kong. Now, as it happens, you've forgotten some very, very important files. In the old days, you would've had to either fly all the way back home, or try to recreate those files from scratch before the big meeting. Remote computing works from all the way across the world if you need it to. This means that if you're on vacation but would like to check up on something you might have forgotten, you can.
