How Scenting Can Make An Office A More Inspiring Place To Work

. Which is why scenting the space we work in has become as important as injecting a pleasant aroma in our own homes to make our living space that much more relaxing. Adding scent to the air is by no means a new phenomenon, but it has perhaps become more purposeful than it was in the past. Originally, a sweet smell could lift spirits, but research has shown that a smell can also compel us to enter a room or spend more time in it. No surprise then that scent marketing is now an accepted technique in modern business. In fact, the impact that smell has is arguably more important than the impact vision has. While interior and exterior landscaping deals with the use of plants in a limited space, the aromas that the plants release are also part of the equation. When one looks at office interior design, the use of aroma has a significant impact, no more so than when the prevailing smell is unpleasant and distracting. Obviously, this is not scent marketing, since there is nothing on offer to buy. Instead, this is known as scent remediation, a process which really seeks to remove the bad odours that may emerge in the work place, replace them with more pleasing and uplifting aromas, and in that way create a more productive work place where staff enjoy being. The key consideration to scent remediation is that an office is easily affected by the world around it, and the often unpleasant smells that can be created there. These smells can come from the street through an open window, or from the manufacturing facilities that share the same building complex. They can also come as a result of more natural processes, such as blocked drains, a dead animal, or spilled substances that have somehow imbedded themselves into the carpets or upholstery on office furniture as are proving extremely difficult to wash out. Perhaps the most common complaint amongst office workers is a stuffy or musky smell in the air, one that may not emanate from any particular place, but instead comes as a result of poor air quality in a highly populate office space. In such cases, bringing fresh plants into the office can certainly deal with the problem by turning stale air into fresh air by inhaling carbon dioxide and exhaling oxygen. But that does not mean that the poor smell will go. And this is why scent remediation has become so important. But while one may understandably think that such a process is simply an automated aerosol can, the system is much more sophisticated, using the latest computer technology to carefully control the release of fragrances into the air, in both the amount and the frequency that they are released. In this sense, it is very much a strategic plan. The devices in which fragrant oils are housed are small and discreet, allowing them to be placed throughout an office and go almost unnoticed. Many types are simply attached high on the wall, but other designs, such as a cube, can be placed on a desk and allowed to do its job without any maintenance. The fragrance oils themselves are also released in a fine mist that boasts nano droplets that effectively carry the fragrance for longer in the air. In fact, they are as much as one 50th the size of regular aerosol droplets, making them a far more economical option. What is more, these light droplets do not cause any heavy residue fall out that can sometimes cause a greasy touch to surfaces below, such as a desk, computer keyboard or files. But the key advantage is that the fragrance blends into the air seamlessly, allowing people to get on with their work without being distracted by a sudden heavy concentration of smell, albeit pleasant.
