If you have already shed any excess weight then you are able to focus on gaining it instead. However this weight will be gained as muscle instead of fat. In order to gain weight as muscle you would need to ingest a greater number of calories than is needed by your body. Whereas losing or cutting weight requires fewer.

The workout for a body builder can often consist of several routines. These routines often have a combination of compound and isolation weight lifting exercises. Compound lifts require the use of more than one point of rotation. This means that more than one joint is being used as you work out. A common example of a compound lift is the squat, which uses the knees, thighs, back and shoulders. However an isolation lift is the contrary, such as the curl which only operates at the elbow.
