But the science of combining various ingredients to produce medications for patients with unique needs was not totally forgotten. Since 2000, after a research study conducted by a group of researchers at Stanford School of Medicine, compounding pharmacies have found their uses again in the area of producing newer treatments for sinusitis. Nowadays, it is not uncommon to find a compounding pharmacy that is focused in the creation and testing of innovative treatments for sinusitis.

Some of the newly developed treatments in the field of sinusitis compounding pharmacy so far are focused on creating alternative methods of administering medications. A perfect example is the nebulized antibiotics, which unlike oral antibiotics, deliver medicated mist directly to the nasal passages via a nebulizer, the same tool that is used by asthma patients.

This method produces more immediate effects on the tissues of the sinuses as it directly distributes the aerosolized medication to the nasal cavity as opposed to the route taken by oral pills the bloodstream.
