What is it about computers that so captivates our collective imaginations? Really the nothing more than a bunch of circuits and wires, aren't they? In some sense yes this is what computers are, a series of circuits and wires, but in another sense computers are so much more. For instance things like the GE Fanuc series of component parts, and specifically the Fanuc PLC series mine has revolutionized manufacturing. It's in this aspect of Computer Technology that is really amazed most people. It's not necessarily all of the bits and pieces that go into a computer or a computer component, but rather it gets the combination of everything that goes into a computer and the ultimate functionality that it provides that so captivates us. This is the really interesting thing about Computer Technology. We're also in tune with computers now and we all use them so much that it's really difficult to think about the period of time when this technology wasn't available to us. In such a short period we went from virtually no technological interaction to a world in which you simply can't survive without relying on technology in some manner. So what changed in the span of a single lifetime that created this paradox? Really the thing that changed wasn't the computers themselves but rather of their role and their functionality. While computers have become smaller and more powerful we found better uses for them as well and this is where the real change as come in.
