How The Problem Of Overeating And Obesity Is Increasing

The rates of people becoming overweight and obese is on the rise

. This serious situation cannot be pointed at one particular cause because there are many. These causes can include a diet that is high in saturated fats and people living a more sedentary lifestyle.

Gone are the days of physical and manual jobs. These have been replaced by jobs were people spend most of their working day sitting at a desk. This means that people are not moving as much as they use to. When we are not moving we are not burning lots of calories.

The rise of convenience foods has also contributed to the fact that people are eating more. In the olden days food was bought in its raw state and had to be prepared and cooked. This used up energy and time. Today, people do not have enough time. They work long hours during the day and come home in the evening time. They do not have the energy to prepare and cook a dinner. That is why the micro wave meal has become so popular. It is a matter of ripping open the packet, sticking in the micro wave and hey presto, a meal is ready in 3 minutes. What takes 3 minutes today would have taken 3 hours in the olden days. Although quick cook foods are very convenient they are high in fat and provide little to no nutritional value.

Another common reason that people overeat is due to emotional problems and because they are hungry. Eating food can temporarily ease the feelings of distress. This begins at an early age. When children throw tantrums the parents are often seen giving them sweets to placate them. Therefore, at an early age we can associate food as a way of dealing with emotional and physical distress.

Many people turn to comfort eating to ease the pain of a broken relationship or loneliness. Although, it may alleviate the symptoms in the short term it makes the overall problem worse. After eating people who overeat generally experience self loathing and guilt. This in turn creates a vicious circle that makes them eat more to push these negative feelings a way. Overeating can also affect your moods and that can affect the relationships of people that are close to you.

In these situations of overeating you need to face the problem head on. This can be done on your own however, it may require professional health to help you overcome the problem.
