How The Youth Look At Bpo In 2011

The stability of an industry can be judged by the employment that it generates

. If you see that a particular sector is hiring employees and expanding their manpower resource, you can safely say that the industry has work in the pipeline. In the initial stages of business process outsourcing, the youngsters of the country did not look at call center jobs as a stable career choice. Only college-goers or those who didnt find employment elsewhere worked at the call center. Customer service agents were largely undergraduates, more so in the third world countries. That is how the price tags on call center services were lesser than that in the first world countries. The scenario has drastically changed now. Its no more a stop-gap arrangement for the employees.

The youth joining the telemarketing sector looks at the BPO industry with a fresh perspective. The ideas about telemarketing units being just a stepping stone to bigger and better things dispelled with fervor during the recession. When the economy became lean and companies were expected to shed weight, the call centers were the only units that were hiring. The telemarketing services job had a certain stability that was not shaken up by the economic meltdown. Youngsters want job security and that is not something that the other industries like offline marketing or retail were in a position to offer. Moreover, there was a strong sense of purpose in expanding their horizons beyond set parameters. There were more opportunities for growth and the youngsters took the challenge up enthusiastically.

The New Year brings some unknown challenges for the youth working in call centers. The experts have already predicted that this year will be a watershed time in the history of BPO. There will be some ground-breaking work done in terms of quality because that is the bottom-line that the clients are looking at. Business firms in USA or UK are hiring third world country-call center units not just for the cost cuts. They are demanding vast improvements in quality. The greatest proof of this change of conception is how the Philippines grabbed more projects than India and toppled the BPO superpower from the top slot. You can no longer leave customer service work to agents hired on cheap salary slots. You will have to train the agents, get experienced candidates and work towards providing a much-improved experience.

The use of advanced technology in call centers is making room for youngsters to join the industry. There are more facilities available to them for training and acquiring knowledge. The entire BPO industry is moving from an amateurish to a professional set-up. The change of guard is something that cannot happen without the participation of the young guns. That is why call center units across the world are hiring young minds to take them forward. Impressionable minds are more alert to innovation and improvisation. They are always trying to push the boundaries and test themselves against the demands of their profession. 2011 surely looks like an exciting year ahead!
