A lot of men don't actually know how they should act on a first date

But, this is not the right thing to do, and should only ever be used as a last resort if necessary. A good rule to remember is that predictable topics are boring, and will always lead down a boring path.

Playing it safe - Well, since you don't want to mess things up, you concentrate so hard on playing it safe, with the "safe" questions, that you end up boring the heck out of your date, and she goes home thinking that there are still no "interesting guys" around. Playing it safe will never work out for you in the end, because you cannot seriously expect anyone to take you seriously that way, when you are never going to be willing to make things fun, interesting, or step "outside of the line"

3. Attraction - Basically the point of the first date is to really leverage on building the attraction, and attraction can only happen if you add spice, energy, surprise, mystery, fun, excitement and a basically anything above and beyond what you would normally try to do. It's not that difficult, all you have to do, is let go of the outcome, and start thinking about the moment. Don't be afraid to tease her, have some witty replies, or ask her questions she wasn't expected to be asked.

4. Embarrassing - One of the easiest ways to instantly "break the ice" is to tell a funny and embarrassing story about yourself, and then ask her what her most embarrassing moment was. As you tell the story, engage her, by using body language, tone and excitement as you talk, so that she can imagine it and come to feel the same way that you do about it. Executing your conversation style this way, rather than the regular way, will ensure that she becomes emotionally drawn into you and the conversation, and in turn the attraction can build fast and easily.
