How To Ask For A Raise As A Security Guard
If you are a security guard and want to ask for a raise there are some important considerations you want to carefully think about. First of all, how long have you been at the job? If you are new then asking for a raise too soon can be a huge turn off, and may end up hurting your chances for promotion in the future, even if you are a talented worker. Consider the environement you are in. Is your company doing well or are they struggling in this tough economy like most businesses. If it's the later, it may not be a good time to ask for a raise. Timing is very important and so is patience. But if you feel that the time is right, ask yourself if you have done a good enough job to warrant a raise. Many people feel that just because they work somewhere they are entitled to periodic raises; however, most employers do not feel that. However, if you think the time is righ and that your performance on the job has been strong, then take these steps.
1) Ask your boss or whomever the person is who will give you a raise when would be a convenient time to chat. Respect that they're busy. They'll end up appreciating that you respected their busy schuedle.
2) Thank your employer for giving you the chance to work for the company. Start out by saying what you enjoy about the job.
3) Quickly review what your direct supervisors have said about you. Perhaps you have letters that reflect what a good job you have done. You want to leave the impression that your conduct as an officer has been exceptional and the more you can back this up--with facts--the better you are when asking for a raise.
4) Explain why you want a raise. Be simple, clear, and concise.
5) If you end up getting a raise, terrific. If not, do not be embittered or angry. There will always be a next time and you may have the opportunity to check back in a few months.
