If you're new to affiliate marketing, you may be wondering how to get started. Since there are a ton of affiliates out there, you may feel like there's too much competition. A lot of other "new entrepreneurs" have review sites, forum links, or an info-site where they post their affiliate links.
Are all these marketing methods a good idea?
Maybe, but those internet marketing methods can be difficult to scale up. You might get a sale here and there from your site and be happy you're making some money. And you deserve to be happy; most people who join affiliate programs actually lose money, when you count the costs they put into getting set up. If you're making a few sales, you're well ahead of the ball game, but still have quite a while to go before you can quit your day job.
The difference comes in when you "graduate" to email marketing.
You can add email marketing to almost any other system you have in your marketing mix. If you have a website, you can add a subscribe-to box. If you promote on forums, you can link to a sign-up page, even if you don't have a website yourself.
And... if you want to go even more out of the box, you could even put up road signs on your streets with instructions to join your mailing list. If you have an email autoresponder service, this is simply a nifty trick you can use.
An autoresponder is an online service that handles everything in your email marketing but the content that goes in your emails. The content can't come from your autoresponder provider but it can be outsourced to article writers, employees, or already written PLR distributors.
When you have the content ready, you decide who gets it, and when it gets sent.
If you have a mailing list of a few hundred you can start making good money. If you have thousands, then you can make even more money. Maybe you'll send a 5 part email course on a topic you choose, and put your affiliate link in it.
Once you're done with that first e-course, you can immediately switch to promoting a related product, or even an unrelated one, if you think you can make it work. That's the beauty of email affiliate marketing. Once someone is on your list, you simply sell to them until they buy or unsubscribe. You don't really want a bunch of friendly fans who read your emails with joy and never do anything. You want hungry buyers or pissed off subscribers who opt out of the list.
Remember that I said "pissed off SUBSCRIBERS." You can't add people to your list who didn't volunteer to be on there. Spam is when someone had no intention of being on your list. Once someone has opted in to be on your list, and has the power to unsubscribe at any time, you are allowed to be as salesy as you want and it's not considered "spam." The worst case scenario is that someone gets mad and clicks the "unsubscribe" link provided by your autoresponder. They won't even write to you to complain.
An awesome thing about autoresponders is they make sure your email promotions are 100% within the law. It's actually almost impossible to spam, because the service makes sure all your email addresses are opt-in and makes sure there's an unsubscribe link on every email.
If you're an affiliate, it's a must that you use an autoresponder.
