How To Break Up With Someone
Being unhappy in a relationship is not healthy
, but ending a relationship can be one of the hardest things you can do. Here are a few tips to make it easier for you when you are thinking how to break up with someone.
Make sure this decision is definitely what you want. Make sure that whatever it is that is making you want to end the relationship, you have discussed with your partner first and have tried to work it out. If you dont try and work it out you will never know if it could have worked. You dont want any regrets once you have ended it, as you may not get the chance to go back.
Always make sure that if you are breaking up with someone, you do it face to face. You will look like a coward if you do it over the phone or text (unless you have a long distance relationship). If you dont decide to do it face to face they will lose any respect for you.
When breaking up with someone always remain calm. You dont want to upset them more than you may do already, prepare them throughout the day so it isnt unexpected. If there is a genuine reason it shouldnt be too unexpected anyway if they feel the same.
Be prepared for all sorts of emotions to appear when you have broken up with your partner. There will be questions asked, anger, tears and arguments, but this is all expected as no one will be happy to hear that they have just been broken up with.
Keep your distance from your partner afterwards as they need their space. Expect them not to want to talk to you for a while, they may even decide they cant be friends with you but you have to respect their decision.
How to cope with a break up
Going through a break up can be a really tough whether you were the one who ended the relationship or not. There are mixed emotions, feelings and thoughts running through your head and you just dont know how to deal with is. We have created a guide on how to cope with a break up including some simple tips to guide you in the right direction in coping with a break up.
Remember that these feelings wont last forever and are only temporary and try and stay positive.
Accept that the relationship is over and dont get any ideas of getting back together because if it doesnt happen you will be even more hurt.
Try and pick out the faults in the relationship and realise that it wasnt perfect. This will make you feel better and help you move on.
Avoid lashing out on your ex when you are feeling angry. If you feel like you want to, give yourself time to make sure you wont regret anything you do.
If the relationship ended on bad terms, dont try and get back with them. You will realise in the long run that the break up is for the best. You dont want to get back into a relationship where youre not happy.
It is more than likely that you will not be able to be friends with your ex so dont try and make this happen. If there is a chance of friendship it will be a long way down the line and a long time after the break up.
