Do not wait until something goes wrong!

What is your definition of supply chain? Is it mainly the material flow element or does it also include purchasing? No matter how you see this, the focus should be on the end-to-end process when structuring a smart organization.

First step is to recognize the importance of having an excellent supply chain. Without a clear direction and acknowledgment on this, you might be facing a complicated story.

Making sure to align your roles and responsibilities with the business requirement and context is the next phase to assure. Streamlining this development is only possible while following a cross-functional approach that starts with discussions at board level (CEO, CFO, COO, etc.) followed by a cascade in all relevant functional fields.

Having the basic agreement with the people concerned with this process is really mandatory.

Attracting and keeping the right person for the job is your next milestone. At all ends it will be people who will execute the requested tasks. Be smart by asking straight questions; be open, flexible and willing to spend time to train your people.

Understanding the request for agility is of key importance too.

By giving first clear evidence of the supply chain abilities you will be able to create more momentum and confidence from your internal customers. Start with focusing on a major project and deliver results before you start tackling the next steps. The art of communicating in an open way can only accelerate your successful venture.
