How To Build Your Great Garden Shed
A good garden shed is invaluable to many people due to its storage capacity as well as being used for other things. There are several points to consider when getting it to ensure you have one which is fit for the job so here is how to build your great garden shed.
You have two main types that you can pick with the first one being called the apex where it comes to a point in the middle of the roof and this is the most common. The other is known as the pent roof and this is where it is much higher at one side and it gradually slopes right down to the other in the one direction.
It is really up to you which one you want to get and it is also up to you which size you are going to buy. There are several sizes available but as you would expect the bigger it is the more expensive it is going to be so your budget may be restricting you as to the one you want.
So when building it clearly you need wood or even buy ready made panels for the sides. There should be space for a window on one side to allow in the light however Perspex can be good enough for that and it does not have to be glass as long as it is clear so it is not too dark inside. You also need material to waterproof the roof and this is very important. When you are building it yourself you of course should have wood or indeed get panels which are already constructed. You need to have a window on one side as this is going to let some light in but you do not have to use glass as something such as clear Perspex is good enough. Lastly you should also consider having the correct material to cover the roof in order to make it water tight.
For the wood you should really use planks that operate a tongue and groove structure as it makes the join between them a lot tighter meaning it is a lot harder for the weather to get into the joins and affect the wood. You do also need to have the best possible preservative and make sure it is well covered and keep painting it on at least every couple of years to maintain its resistance to water.
For the base it can be good to use concrete however this is a lot of work. People tend to have wooden floors but you should never put it right on the soil as it is going to rot quicker and need replaced so instead it has to be supported in some way so it is elevated even just slightly.
With the roof you must get the correct type of felt but when putting it on use a special glue instead of nails. This is because nails go through the felt and the roof which means rain can run down them and over time it is going to start to work away at the roof leading to problems.
