Cleaning your diamond ring is one of the best ways to keep it looking its best. The four methods commonly used to clean diamond rings include; detergent bath, cold water soak, quick dip and ultrasonic cleaner.

Detergent Bath

To give your ring a detergent bath, make sure firstly that you use a very mild detergent soap. Put a small amount of the soap in a bowl and add warm water. Put your diamond ring in and let it sit.

Use a soft brush if you need to remove dirt. Make sure it is a very soft brush so as not to scratch the metal. Rinse the ring in warm water and dry with a lint free cloth.

Cold Water Soak

In a small bowl mix 5 parts of cold water to one part of household ammonia. Leave your ring in the solution to soak for several minutes and then take the item out and very gently tap with a brush if need be. Rinse in the solution once more and leave it to drain on a piece of tissue paper.

Quick Dip

There are some great solutions on the market that will clean you diamonds and make them look like new. Just make sure you read the instructions carefully and make sure the solution you buy is right for your diamonds.

Ultrasonic Cleaner

These small machines comprise of a cup in which you pour water and solution into and place your jewellery. Once the machine is turned on the ultrasonic cleaner creates turbulence in the water and gently cleans the ring.

Keeping your ring safe from chemicals

It is very important to keep diamond rings safe from chemicals. Make sure that when you are cleaning you wear gloves or simply take your rings off. Always remember to remove your rings before swimming as chlorine can damage your jewellery.

We can often forget to take our rings off when we do many things but it is also a good idea to take them off before doing any activity that has the potential to damage your diamond or scratch your ring.
