You can help wildlife numbers increase again by providing them with a natural habitat. By resisting the temptation to add decking to gardens and not filling in ponds you can provide animals like frogs a home for many years. As well as this you keep hedges and trees instead of fences you will be providing a place for birds to live so they can survive. If your neighbours are going to fill in their ponds there is a way you can prevent this. If you see a Great Crested Newt then the UK law requires the area around their habitat (up to 500m) to be left untouched as they are endangered. To help some animals survive you can buy habitats for them. For example you can purchase a hedgehog hut which a hedgehog can move into and make its own. These can be cleaned out and kept fresh for many years. You can buy habitats for other animals all you have to do is contact your local garden centre for advice.

The types of habitat that you can supply for the wildlife vary a lot. One habitat you can provide is a bat box which should be hung from a tree rather high up; this will give the bat a place to rest as their habitats are becoming extremely limited. You can also provide homes for butterflies so they can take nest and grow in numbers, these are beautiful insects and their numbers are declining as well. A final habitat that is recommended is a nest for Bumble Bees. These insects are harmless and are extremely vital in the pollination of flowers so that your garden can survive and thrive.

If you do feel the need to plant shrubs and flowers in your garden make sure they are more natural ones. If they are what some may describe as special it is extremely likely that they will do no help for your wildlife and it will likely drive them away and cause a decline in their numbers. As well as this by having statues and displays it discourages wildlife as it is unnatural. It is best to let nature takes it course in your garden as it will be best for wildlife.

If you commonly used stuff like weed killer and other liquids on your garden they can kill the wildlife straight away. When buying products like that for your garden you should make sure that they will not cause any problems for the wildlife within your garden. You can do this by trying to use only natural products as these will be best for the wildlife and the environment.

Cats can cause a huge problem to wildlife in your garden and other areas. It is estimated that cats kill 300,000,000 birds and small mammals every year in the wild as it is their natural instinct. To deal with this you should keep your cat inside during the night time so your cat does not go about killing the precious animals. If you do not own a cat it is recommended that you do not introduce a cat into your garden or the environment, and instead try to preserve the wildlife already in your garden.
