How To Caulk A Shower Stall

, but to prevent costly maintenance down the road. This starts with the caulk around the shower stall. Over time, the calk does begin to wear down around the stall, which results in water damage. After enough water damage, mold and mildew begins to form around the shower, causing health issues, and possibly even damage to the walls and floorboards of the bathroom. This costs a substantial amount to correct, especially if it requires you to remove the bathroom tiles and shower, just to place down new flooring. Thankfully, with this bathroom remodeling job, it only takes a few hours of work, and you are able to perform the shower caulking yourself.

Before you can begin applying the new caulk, you need to remove the old caulk. Use a sharp razor blade and cut directly under the bottom of the current caulk. Once the caulk is cut, cut across the top of the caulk. This separates the caulk from the wall. Pull off the old caulk from the wall and wash the area. You need to remove any blemishes before adding new caulk, otherwise the seal is not gong to be complete.

Give the bathroom time to dry. You want to make sure the shower stall is completely dry before starting with the caulk process. Once dry. hold the caulking gun at a 45 degree angle pointing either to the left or the right. This is the direction you are going to lead the caulking gun with (if the gun is leading to the left, you are going to drag the caulk gun to the left). Slowly pull down on the trigger and drag the caulk gun in the direction it is pointing. The tip of the caulk gun needs to be right against the crack between the shower stall and the wall. This ensures the calk fits directly into the crack.

With the caulk applied, wipe off the excess caulk with a damp rag. This removes the additional caulk sticking out of the shower stall, but leaves the caulk stuck in the corner, so the seal stays in place. Once the excess caulk is gone, allow plenty of time for the caulk to dry. In fact, do not take a shower until the next day. Because of this, it is a good idea to perform this bathroom remodeling job on the weekend, so you have an extra day or so where you don't need to shower.
