How To Choose A Chiropractor In Temple Terrace, Florida
People choose chiropractic care as a safe alternative to dangerous drugs or surgery for the treatment of low back pain
. For over 100 years in the United States, chiropractors have been reducing nerve pressure on the spine, which in turn allows the spine to move more freely without the need for needles, lasers, or drugs. But, the discipline was actually practiced in Greece over 2,000 years ago and in China over 4,000 years ago.
These physicians of the Far East understood a correlation exists between the spine and pain, but they may not have been able to explain that it is pressure on a nerve that causes weakness, pain, numbness, and tingling in the back, legs, arms, and hands among many other places. In fact, extreme lower back pain can result in the tiniest amount of pressure (or "pinch") on a nerve. Pinched nerves can have many causes: accidents, physical malformations, bulging or slipped discs, muscle tears, or disease.
The sciatic nerve is easy for pregnant women, especially, to pinch because it travels from the lower back down the back of the leg. A pinched sciatic nerve causes sensations of:
- Pins and needles in the lower back, legs, and sometimes the foot
- Shooting or burning in the lower back, legs, or buttock
- Numbness in the legs or feet
- Lower back pain
Drugs and surgery are the prescription of choice for sciatica and other pinched nerve issues, but we know that these two treatment options can result in serious complications, such as permanent illness and in rare circumstances, even death. In addition, almost every drug has some kind of side effect, which can be more painful and problematic that the pinched nerve resulting in reduced enjoyment of life. For example, if you are drowsy much of the day, you won't feel like going out to dinner or to a movie or to visit a friend or relative. More problematic than drowsiness is that even though drugs and surgery can relieve symptoms for a short time, if the pinched nerve is not permanently corrected, the pain will resurface.
Many studies have proven that chiropractic care can eliminate the cause of the pain (increase mobility and reduce nerve pressure) thus eliminating the pain itself. In fact, research shows that spine mobility is greatly increased by aligning the joints of the spine. When the spine is more mobile, body fluids are more easily exchanged resulting in easier body function as well as a healthier joint.
To better explain this concept, think of joint alignment as being similar to tire alignment. If the alignment is professionally and competently performed, there will be less erosion on the joints and on the tires. The end result is that both the tires and the spine will increase its lifespan.
There's a general consensus and studies have shown that people are generally more satisfied with chiropractic care over medical treatment for lower back pain. Studies also show that people with back pain report a higher satisfaction in the quality of care by a chiropractor over that of other medically-trained physicians.
