How To Choose A Surgeon And What To Expect From Nose Job Revision Surgery

A nose job, or rhinoplasty procedure, is intended to correct undesired features of the nose

, which is one of the most prominent characteristics of the face. The appearance of your nose can make you unhappy with your other features as well if it interferes with the symmetry of your face or the look of your profile.

Rhinoplasty is performed with several small incisions made inside the nose. The skin is lifted and the cartilage and bone underneath is sculpted into the desired shape by your surgeon. Unfortunately, nose jobs don't always yield the intended results.

This can be up to a few different factors; including unreasonable patient expectations or a surgeon who was either unqualified, made a mistake, or chose to disregard the patient's requests.

Patient Expectations

It's important to go into any cosmetic surgery consultation and your subsequent operation appointment with a set of reasonable expectations about the outcome of the procedure. Rhinoplasty will not completely radically alter your appearance or magically change everything it is that you do not like about your facial features, but it can correct some very specific problems that can have a very pleasing overall affect on the face.

Choosing a Surgeon

Revision rhinoplasty is sometimes necessary when the original surgeon did not perform the procedure up to standard. When you are electing a surgeon for your revision procedure, always ask to see before and after photos of some successful rhinoplasties that they completed recently (within the past year or two).

You should feel comfortable with asking your doctor any questions you need to for your own peace of mind, and they should be able to answer you directly and share examples of their experience. Some surgeons actually specialize in the area of secondary rhinoplasty, so you may want to seek out this type of professional for a consultation.

What to Expect of Your Revision Rhinoplasty

The outcome of your secondary procedure is dependent on several factors, including how much bone, cartilage and tissue is left in your nasal area. The surgeon will have to work with what is there, so they may not be able to completely restore or alter the area to your exact specifications.

They should, however, do their best to operate on what is available and produce a pleasing and natural looking result. It's important that both you and your surgeon remain realistic and openly communicative about the anticipated results of the procedure to avoid the need for any further corrections.
