Choosing the right sunglasses may seem like an easy task but there are many factors
that need to be taken into account while going through the purchasing process. Most people buy sunglasses for fashion and to block the suns harmful rays which are both great reasons but selecting the correct sunglasses to get the most protection from harmful light can be tricky. Here I summarize several tips as follows.
1.Sunglasses should provide UVA and UVB protection. Check the label or website ahead of time to ensure the sunglasses you may buy include 100% protection. Polarization or polarized sunglasses are the best option because they not only block direct glare but also reflected glare. Filtering of blue light is also an important feature since blue light can damage the retina which leads to macular degeneration. Sunglasses that block blue light will make the sky appear grey on a clear day.
2.Lens color is an often overlooked feature of a good pair of sunglasses. Green lenses don't distort color like other lenses do while orange/brown lenses filter blue light and UV better which are good for those with macular degeneration. Always purchase glasses that are comfortable, lightweight, and cover a large portion of the viewing area to prevent rays from getting around the sunglasses.
3.If you have vision problems, speak with your eye doctor to see what type or kinds of sunglasses they would recommend. Be sure to ask about various brands and lens types. They may recommend prescription sunglasses in which case you can order them directly from them. Regular sunglasses can be ordered from your eye doctor, in store, or you can buy sunglasses online.
4.Don't be misled by price. Higher-priced sunglasses usually reflect style and/or brand, not necessarily protection.
5.Select closefitting larger or wraparound lenses. These prevent UV rays from getting in around the sides--especially important on water and sand, where sunlight is reflected.
