How To Choose The Right Toilet Bowls And Covers
Choosing your toilet bowls for the home seems like an easy task
, right? There really can't be that much to the process. But there's actually a whole lot more to consider than you may realize. Toilet bowls come in so many different styles and functions that when you do start shopping, you may be overwhelmed if you aren't prepared. It's important to have a good idea of all of them before you make any decisions.
The first thing you need to consider is how much water the toilet is flushing down, because often that water pressure is going to be what dictates how well your toilet is going to work and how much it can handle within a short amount of time. Back in 1994, Congress tried to conserve water by limited the amount of water that could be used in one flush to 1.6 gallons a flush, instead of the old 3.5. This means more flushes may be needed in general.
There are three designs for flush toilets. The gravity flush is the first, which opens a valve and lets water rush down to flush the toilet. With newer tank designs, manufacturers have made it a bit more efficient to use gravity flush toilets but they still may be a bit weaker compared to other models. These should be considered if you are on a budget or need a new toilet for the bathroom in the house you may not use as often.
The pressure assist toilet is the kind you'll often find in public restrooms, but can definitely be installed in the home. It is one of the more powerful options and so it'll be the priciest. The tank holds water under constant pressure so that it, combined with gravity, creates an even bigger flush.
The vacuum assist creates suction in the tank, so that it sucks the waste out of the toilet bowls. It's a newer form of technology and it is easy to repair because it uses the same flush valves as gravity toilets. It has a strong flush, but isn't as good as pressure assist and you may find less overall choices since it is so new.
With these styles in mind, consider what you need most for your home. It may depend on how many people are in your family, how many bathrooms are available, as well as your budget. In the end, make sure the toilet bowls you pick really work for you.
