How To Clean Soggy And Dirty Leather Luggage

Perhaps the most difficult type of material to clean when it comes to luggage is leather

. Not many people know how to properly clean their bags. And taking a trip to the dry cleaning store and spending more than necessary to have your leather luggage cleaned is such a huge hassle.

One of the rules in taking good care of leather material is to never soak it in water. Leather materials do not dry up easily. If they remain soggy and moist after a few hours, they tend to produce a bad smell. But sometimes when you are travelling during rainy seasons, soggy and dirty leather luggage is inevitable.

Don't sweat it. With the following steps, you can clean your bag easily:

1. While it is still soggy, take this time to get rid of stains or any lingering dirt. Remove mud using a soft-bristled brush. Be careful not to brush the bag vigorously as leather tends to get soft when it is wet.

2. If you have stain remover, try to treat the stained areas with this cleaning solution. If not, mix water and a drop or two of dishwashing liquid. Treat the stained areas only with this cleaner.

3. Once you have removed the stains, you can try rinsing it with warm water. This will rinse the bag and the dirty water it might have absorbed.

4. Place the bag over the counter and flatten your hands over it. Press your hands over the leather bag to remove as much water as you can. Make sure it is relatively dry before hanging it up.

5. Hang it up in a nice and dry area. The best time to dry this up is when the sun is shining brightly. Do not expose it directly to the sun. Just place it in a shaded area and hang the luggage up.

6. If the weather is still not good for drying leather bag, hang it up in the warmest area of your house and use an electric fan to air dry it. You can also use your hair dryer. Use the mild settings only to prevent the material from getting damaged.

7. When it has already dried up a bit, try sprinkling it with a bit of baking soda. This will help diffuse unwanted leather smell. Let it stay there overnight.

8. Your luggage should already be dry the next day. Use a hand-held vacuum cleaner to remove the particles of baking soda.

9. Purchase leather polisher and use this to add shine to the exterior of the bag. If you don't have leather polisher at the moment, you can always use banana peel. Rub banana peel over the leather.

Now that you know how to clean your dirty leather luggage, you can save a lot of money on dry cleaning services. Just remember these simple tips the next time you have this luggage problem.
