How To Clean Stains From Furniture

You may have invested a lot in your wooden or metal furniture

, cleaning and maintaining them may seem like a cumbersome task for some. Here are some tips that you can follow to easily clean your furniture and other furniture related items. It is very important to know the surface of the furniture you are cleaning, and proceed to clan accordingly.

Aluminum furniture

When it comes to cleaning outdoor furniture you need to start by brushing away any dirt such as leaves, flowers, branches and dried bird droppings. These can be painted or not painted; they can be cleaned with mild soap and water. They should be rinsed to remove residue (if any), and you can also protect it with an automotive paste wax if needed. If there are any scuffed areas use a garden hose to rinse it off after you clean and remove scuffed areas. Clean, polish and protect aluminum furniture with a soft cloth dipped in water-and-vinegar solution.

Wood furniture

Wooden furniture is popularly known for their long lasting and classic looking nature. You can use a soft cloth or rag to wipe away the dirt and grit on the furniture daily and also use a good wood oil to protect and keep the furniture shiny. You can apply this with a soft cloth as well; repainting is a good option if you want to protect wood furniture. Never wax an oil finish as it blocks the pores of the wood, causing it to become rough and dry. You can also remove smudges and fingerprints from painted wood furniture by using a damp sponge. You will find some excellent products in the market made especially for the type of wood your furniture is made of. There are many types of wood as well such as cedar, pine, spruce, teak and mahogany. You can find wax and oils as per the color of your furniture. While washing wood you may as well consider a mild detergent or shampoo, and gently scrub and rinse. Lemon oil can be used as it works great with all kinds of wood.

Patio Furniture

For regular cleaning on wrought iron furniture, you can clean with a rag cloth and a mixture of water and mild dish soap. Leave the mixture on the furniture for about 15 minutes, and then rinse it off. It is easy to clean plastic furniture, all you need to do is wipe the plastic patio with the same mixture. You may consider repainting if the plastic surface has been scratched. If you have iron patio furniture you can wash with a mild soap and water to maintain cleanliness. If you find any spots of rust it is best you take care of it immediately by using a sanding the rusted spots and applying the primer and finally painting over the surface.

Cushions

With the help of some water, sponge, and a mild detergent you can easily clean washable cushions (check the label). Make a mixture of the detergent and water then dip the sponge in the solution and scrub over the cushions. If you have a lot of stains you can use some lemon juice to get rid of them. Jus let them air dry in the sun before you out them back in place.

Wicker Furniture

Wicker furniture can be used both indoors as well as outdoors, and is easy to clean. Remember to regularly dust your wicker furniture by wiping with a soft cloth. In order to remove any stains, you can use a mild dish washing liquid and water, and wipe gently. Use some mildly warm soap water, and with a sponge or cloth wash the entire surface. A soft bristled brush can also be used to wipe off the dirt and dust. If needed you can also process to apply a varnish or lacquer finish or paint the wicker furniture.
