Washing windows is not fun. It's one of the tasks that most people try to avoid at all costs; however, if you want to have a clean, tidy and nice looking home, you really need to clean your windows at least twice a year; more often is much better. If you cannot afford a cleaning service and you want to do the job on your own, you need to follow these guidelines and tips. How to clean windows and acheive perfect results:

First of all you need to have all your supplies and detergents close to you. The best thing is to use a bucket with water, filled with a little of the cleaner of your choice.

When cleaning windows you don't have enough time to run all over the house to take what you need, so you have to do that before you start.

Before you start, you can lay a towel on the floor in front of the windows, especially if the windows are large. It's also a good idea to dust the wooden frame before you start washing the windows. Use a sponge and soak it in the bucket; clean the window frames and surfaces thoroughly.

Soak your sponge to the water and start washing the windows; a good trick is to wash the one side horizontally and the other vertically so that you know where is a possible streak. Dragging the sponge down or horizontally (depending on the side) is a good technique because this allows you to clean the surface thoroughly.

When you wash them, you can take a cloth and start cleaning and drying the windows. If you wish to polish them you can take a piece of crumbled newspaper, which allows you to make your windows shine. Newspaper leaves some sort of film which is resistant to dirt.
