Hotel room prices can be misleading. Because you see a low price advertised do not assume that it is good value. Always ask some questions and do a little research:

Location - If a hotel is located out of the way then you will need to factor in the extra travel costs that you will incur. If you have your own transport, then this is not such a big deal, though you will still be paying at least a bit extra for gas, but if you are relying on taxis and public transport then it is certainly something to consider. Ask about a free shuttle service too, as some hotels provide one whereas some do not.

Hotel facilities - Have you come upon two hotels that cost the same amount? Does one have a swimming pool and a gym, for example, and the other does not? If you plan to use a swimming pool and a gym, the hotel with those facilities is a better value for you. But if you have no desire to use a swimming pool or a gym, look a little further because the second hotel may have facilities you would prefer. After all, you pay for everything extra that a hotel offers.

Restaurant - If you are staying in a hotel for more than a day or so you will inevitably find yourself wanting to stop into the hotel restaurant for a meal. When booking a hotel room, ask about the prices of some basic meals. Most hotels overcharge for food. But some overcharge much more than others. If you find that a simple meal like a hamburger and fries is much less in one hotel than another, you may want to consider the one where it is less expensive. Anything more than $12.00 for a meal of this nature is way too expensive.

Breakfast - Find out if breakfast is included in the price you pay and also what is included in the breakfast. Some hotels provide just coffee and toast for breakfast whereas others provide an 'eat as much you want' style buffet. If you are not planning to have breakfast, then ask if you can get a discount off of the advertised price.

Check Out Time - Do you have to leave your room by 11am, midday or 1pm? Different hotels have different check out times so be sure to ask before making a booking. If you have to check out very early, then try and negotiate a discount. If you can only check in very late, then ask if you can check out later than the normal check out time. Often you can work out some kind of compromise.
