It can be devastating to spill a glass of water or drop your iPhone in a toilet
. However, this isnt necessarily fatal to the iPhone. You may think that you should immediately turn your iPhone on to see if works or not but dont. If you turn on a wet iPhone it may very well short circuit, and nothing will fix an iPhone that has been short circuited.
One thing that you can do to try to dry your iPhone out is to put it in a bag of silica or rice which may very well help. Place your iPhone in a plastic bag and cover the iPhone with packets of silica or uncooked rice. Seal the plastic bag and allow it to sit for a couple of days. This will help to draw the moisture out of your IPhone.
A more rapid way of drying out your iPhone is to try to dry it with a blow dryer. Dry the iPhone often for as much as two hours with the heat adjusted on the blow dryer to low. Dont adjust the blow dryer on high heat because the plastic parts in the iPhone might melt.
A much slower way to dry out your iPhone is to let it air dry. Place the iPhone on a towel in a dry place and let it dry for a minimum of a week. The quicker your iPhone dries the better chance that it will work properly when it has dried out. Therefore so you should only use the air drying technique when all of the other options are unavailable.
If your iPhone still wont work, you have no other choice but to take it to an Apple store for replacement or repair. The warranty wont cover water damage, but Apple will repair it for you at a discounted price or they will give you a discount on a new iPhone. The repair technician can tell if the iPhone has been damaged by water by looking at the indicator on the bottom of your iPhone. If the indicator is pink, your iPhone has been water damaged. Therefore, if you drop your iPhone in the toilet or spill a glass of water on it, dont panic. Try these drying out procedures and the chances are it will work again. If not you will have to have it repaired or replaced but at least you wont have to pay full price.
