How To Connect A Garbage Disposal Unit With A Dishwasher

A garbage disposal fits under the sink and is connected to the plumbing

, chopping food waste into smaller pieces and washing it away. Installation requires removing some existing plumbing pipes and attaching the disposal.

To join a garbage disposal unit to dishwasher is just an easy task. We shall now learn some points which will help us in doing this job more smoothly and efficiently.

Clean out the bottom sink cabinet and place a bucket under the existing J-trap pipe. Use a pipe wrench to loosen the pipe and remove the pipe. Dump any water collected in the trap pipe into the bucket. Also remove the large nuts that connect the drain pipe with the sink. Detach the drain pipe from the sink.

To remove the strainer body from the sink, unscrew the large nut that holds it in place underneath the sink. Then clean off the old plumber's putty that surrounds the edge of the drain opening.

Connect the garbage disposal to the sink. Apply a coat of plumber's putty of about quarter an inch around the sink hole and place the sink mounting assembly and the flange piece to the hole and fit it in underneath. The drain pipe should be pressed on the putty so that it can give a sealing effect. The ring is to be tightened by hand so that it doesn't move from its position on the sink. Eliminate any excess putty pushed out by the tightening.

Unplug the dishwasher unit by simply detaching the inlet tube that is mounted at the apex. Using a screwdriver and a hammer, hit the arrangement until the plastic piece is popped out. Bring the plastic piece out of the unit by turning it upside down.

Bringing the mounting and the disposal in time, slightly turn the unit and it will tighten and get locked with a click sound. The wall drain pipe can then be connected with the unit and using the J- trap supplied by the manufacturer.

Now that everything is installed and in position, lock in the disposer to the sink mounting assembly using the special wrench that came with the unit. Finally, you should test the disposer for leaks and turn on the electrical breaker to test its operation.
