How To Connect Your Iphone Or Ipad To Your Tv

The twenty first century has truly broadened our horizons when it comes to technology

. With the birth of the internet on April 7th 1969 it was inevitable that things were going to change. Originally, the internet was a place where only computer geeks were capable of obtaining music and other forms of media for free. Illegal file sharing seemed to be becoming a bit of an issue at that point in time, with many artists such as Metallica feeling stung by the loss of money from album sales.

After futile efforts to try to police the internet and stop these illegal activities it seems that record companies and TV broadcasters alike have embraced the internet. So it seems that the internet has revolutionised how we watch TV, with websites such as BBC iPlayer and 4oD people are able to watch what they want when they want, and this has never been truer with the release of the iPhone. The only downside it seems is the small screen that you are limited to. Well, this is no longer an issue; HDMI and VGA cables are here to save the day.

VGA adapters are used for older televisions and computer displays as well as projectors that support the VGA standard. They have the dock port on one end for your device and a VGA plug on the other end for video. They dont provide audio; you have to use a separate 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter for that. Unfortunately only video apps that support the cables (like iPod, Air Video, etc.) will function with this cable.

To use a VGA cable:

1)Plug the dock connector into your device

2)Plug the VGA cable into your TV

3)Set your TV to the correct input (this might be called PC)

4)If you want sound then a mini jack connection to phono left and right will work fine

HDMI adapters, called the Apple Digital AV Adapter, are brand new from Apple and support the latest TV standards up to 1080p. They have dock port on one end for your device and a HDMI port and dock pass-through (so you can charge) on the other. HDMI also supports sound.

To use a HDMI cable:

1)Plug the dock connector into your device

2)Plug the VGA cable into your TV

3)Set your TV to the correct input (usually called HDMI 1, 2, 3 etc.)
