How To Cope With Jet Lags

Jet lag is fatigue resulting from jumping time zone during travel

. The various symptoms of jet lags include Fatigue, Insomnia, Disorientation, headache, Digestive problems etc. These symptoms feel especially when you fly from west to east as some evidences shows that it is better to fly westwards then eastwards. The more time zones cross during the flights, the more jet lags are likely to experience. Time zone travel is pain and when a person is flying across time zones, the body of the person takes some time to adjust and during this time person get affected with jet lag symptoms. The various tips that help to avoid jet lags are:

1. Adjust your schedule according to destination: Change your sleeping schedule few days before the trip according to the destination. This will help to match the schedule according to your destination and hence avoid jet lags during the trip.

2. Stay Hydrated: The air in the planes is dry and hence causes dehydration. Drink plenty of fluid during the whole trip as some experts believe that dehydration is one of the leading causes of jet lags.

3. Stay away from beverages with alcohol: Try to avoid anything within caffeine like alcohol, tea or coffee during flight as these also increase dehydration. Alcohol has marked great intoxicating effect when drink in airplanes.


4. Sleep on plane if it is night-time: If the flight is in night-time at the destination, try to sleep on the plane. Use earplugs, headphones or other sleep aids including travel pillow to fall asleep faster which make the trip more comfortable.

5. Stay awake if it is daytime: Read, Watch the movie or anything to avoid sleeping if flight is daytime at your destination.

6. Try flight-exercise: Try to do flight-exercises like stretch your back, leg muscles as much as possible.

7. Eat lightly according to mealtime of destination: Eat something lightly to avoid unnecessary jet lag condition. High protein meals keep you awake, fatty food make you feel low and dull.

8. Reset your watch: Set your watch according to time of your destination as soon as begin your flight.

9. Take dietary supplement: To reduce the effect of jet lags some experts suggest taking melatonin as dietary supplement. Some people report it worsen the jet lag, so consult your doctor before considering this.

10. Pre-flight: Before departing, make sure you have all business or personal affairs. Do not be stressed-out with excitement. Try to protect from sickness like flu, cold and if caught then try to delay the trip.
