How To Correctly Shampoo Your Own Carpets At Home
Even with the trend in homes that is making so many people want hardwood floors
, there are still plenty of people out there that really like carpet. Carpets are comfortable and luxurious in some rooms of the home like a formal living room or bedrooms. The only drawback to carpets is that require a little more time to clean and keep that way. Many people choose to use a professional carpet cleaning service, but it is easy enough and sometimes more convenient to do it yourself with your own carpet cleaner.
Choosing a carpet shampooer for your house is simple enough for the most part. If you have a lot of carpets, kids and pets, then you are likely going to get what you pay for. Choose a good quality shampooer with the attachments that you think you will need. A quality carpet cleaner does not necessarily mean you have to pay hundreds of dollars for one, but you do want one that will stand up to tough dirt and frequent use. When choosing a carpet shampoo, choose a quality spot treatment cleaner for tough stains and a good shampoo for the actual cleaning.
Always vacuum your carpets thoroughly before you start. Move any small objects on the floor into another room. Treat tough stains and heavy traffic areas prior to using the carpet cleaner. If you shampoo underneath large furniture pieces, use plastic coasters under the furniture legs so it will not hurt the legs or stain your carpet. Tough spots often require treating with a spot cleaner and a little extra scrubbing. Make sure you follow the cleaning directions for your particular carpet. Do all of this before you set up your shampooer for cleaning and the rest will go a lot faster and easier. You do not want to have to stop and move things around or treat tough stains while you are in the process of shampooing.
Another important reminder is about how much water you spray onto the carpet. You should not over wet the carpet because it will take much longer to dry and it can cause water damage to the sub floor underneath. It might cause mold, mildew, or even make the wood swell up and crack. It is not good for the carpet either. It can break down the backing and the fibers themselves over time. You only want clean carpet not ruined carpet. Use fans or open windows if possible to help your floors dry faster. It can be easy enough to clean your own carpets, but it will likely take a little break and a little hard work, so be patient and do a good job.
