How To Create Back Up Of A Database
You can think of a critical situation, when all of your data present in the database will be lost
. This can happen due to any reason, but you will have to suffer for this. So, to avoid such situation you have to take a back up of the database. When you want to take a back up of your database, you can use SQL Server Management Studio. In this you have to click the script button and pick up a script destination. This will create the corresponding Transact-SQL BACKUP script.
For taking the back up of a database follow these steps:
When your computer is connected with an instance of the Microsoft SQL Server Database Engine, then in the Object Explorer, click on the server name to elaborate the server tree. After this, expand the databases and depending on the database, choose a user database or a system database. Then right click on the selected database, select tasks and click on Back Up. After performing this, back up database dialog box appears. Now, you can verify the database name from the database list box. You can also pick out another database from the list.
Select Full in the backup type list box. Then click on the database for backup component. After this, enter a name for the backup set. Now, you have to fix some of the settings, like when the backup set will expire. If you want that the backup set would expire after a specific number of days, then click on the After and enter the number of days in which it will expire. If you want that backup set would expire on a specific date, then click On, and enter the date on which the set will expire.
After performing this, select the type of backup destination by picking out Disk or Tape. If you want to erase a backup destination, select it and click on Remove. When you want to view the contents of a backup destination, pick it and click on Contents. If you want to select an overwrite media option, then click the option back up to the existing media set. You can also select the option, back up to a new media set and erase all existing backup sets.
Then in the Reliability section, you can click the option Verify backup when finished, but it is optional. Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise and its later versions support backup compression. Normally, when a backup is compressed, it depends on the value of the default server configuration option. You can also avoid compression by clicking the option Do not compress backup. This option will work, instead of the current server-level default settings.
