How To Create Reset Disk To Recover Windows Admin Password

Microsoft Windows, one of the most trusted and used operating system has evolved with the changing times

. The latest versions of Windows even allow the user to create a password reset disk. This disk helps to reset and recover Windows password in case the password is forgotten by the user or the person who has the password is not reachable. However, be wary of the fact that this disk should be created before the password has been lost or forgotten. In case you have lost a password and do not have the reset disk, then you have little option but to opt for a password recovery software .

Let us see how to create a password reset disk in Windows Vista.

Click 'Start' followed by clicking 'Control Panel'.

Double-click 'User Accounts' icon. Some systems have 'User Accounts and Family Safety' link. In case your computer shows that, click on it, followed by clicking on User Accounts link.


Insert a portable media, like a flash drive, or a floppy disk drive, which can be turned into a password reset disk.

Click on 'Create a password reset disk' to start the 'Forgotten Password Wizard' window.

In the drop down box named 'I want to create a password key disk in the following drive' choose the inserted media that you want to be used as password reset disk, and click on Next.

When prompted, you will need to enter your current account password, in the designated text box, before Windows starts with the creation of the password reset disk on your specified media.

The progress indicator will keep you posted on the status of the creation of the reset disk. Click on 'Next', when the indicator shows 100 percent completion. In the next window, click on 'Finish'.

Remove the media by following the proper exit procedures.

Label the media, and store it in a safe location.

This disk once created can be used as many times as you want to reset and recover windows password , no matter how many times you change the password. However, keep in mind that in case a second reset disk has been created, the first one becomes useless.
