How To Cure Sleep Deprivation

Sleep is what most of us look forward to at the end of a long day

. Nothing is better than a good night?s rest that allows us to wake up refreshed the next morning. Unfortunately, many people wake up in the morning feeling groggy and tired even after having slept for their preferred duration. We have all experienced this feeling at one point or another in our lives, when we want to steal just a few more minutes or hours of sleep.

Sleep deprivation, caused by prolonged feelings of tiredness after waking up in the morning, should not be ignored. When a person is constantly deprived of sleep, he is likely to suffer from negative consequences, in the short and the long run.

In the short run, the consequences include headaches and dizziness, vomiting, bad tempers, reduced efficiency in performance, high tension levels and poor recollection. Some of them can be particularly dangerous, for example decreased span of attention and alertness can cause accidents when driving or operating dangerous machinery.

Sleep deprivation can have potentially dangerous health effects. In the long term, when the body is deprived of sleep, the hormonal levels are disturbed causing various diseases such as diabetes. Usually hormonal instability results in obesity and exercises and diets hardly pay off. Immunity is lowered increasing the chances of illness. In children and teenagers, lack of adequate sleep causes abnormal and poor growth, and the onset of depression is often noticed when an individual is deprived of sleep.

Every individual has a differing level of sleep requirements. For the improvement of personal and social life, sleep needs to be prioritized such that you wake up fresh and energized every morning, whether be it 6 hours or 10 hours a day. Most adults need 5 to 8 hours of sleep, but this can differ across individuals. Generally, children, teenagers and elderly people need more hours of sleep than adults.
