How To Decorate Office Cubicles

If you are an office worker, chances are your workspace consists of a cubicle with cubicle furniture

. Many companies are furnished with it because of its affordability, variety of designs, configurability and ease of installation. Cubicle furniture not only looks good, but is efficient as well, especially with the addition of trays, shelves, file organizers and other accessories.

Working in a cubicle for 40 hours a week or so, you are probably equally concerned with making your space comfortable. Being able to personalize it according to your tastes and needs is important to you. But before you start, here are some things to keep in mind when decorating office cubicles.

The office environment in general provides a clue on how one should decorate a cubicle. Is the office culture a conservative one, or is it more on the flexible and creative side? Is the cubicle being used to entertain or receive visitors and clients? If the answer is yes, a more conservative style of decor is called for.

A personalized look can still be achieved in one's cubicle, even while decorating with restraint. Things that are important to a person are reflected in the items that he chooses to adorn his space. Examples include family pictures, plants and themed decor.

Decorations can be motivational tools. Many cubicle wall partitions allow hanging of items such as posters or prints with inspirational images and messages, as well as accessories like clocks and bulletin boards. This kind of decor is helpful in keeping one's focus on tasks that need to be done.

Decorations can serve as conversation pieces. One can make visitors to their cubicle more comfortable by having dcor and accessories that can jump start or invite a conversation. These can be unique, humorous or thought-provoking items such as an unusual travel memento, a Magic 8 Ball, a puzzle or even a candy jar.

There are many colorful, fun and attractive items available in the market that can be used as cubicle decorations. However, you should only get the ones that won't distract you from your work. Desk toys and gadgets in particular can have a negative impact on your productivity if these make you spend more time tinkering with them than doing your job.

Finally, decorations for office cubicles should not be offensive. One should take care not use anything that might be considered racist, gender-insensitive, critical of other religions, misogynist or profane. If one is not sure, it better to err on the side of caution and to leave the item at home.
