How To Do Roll Roofing ?

. A produce of asphalt made in the roll shape is roll roofing. This roofing is not just economical than the shingled roofing but also needs very less time in laying. It is also called as rolled roofing.

For the effective laying of this roofing system, one needs to consider the following points. This roofing can be installed by the self and doesn't need employing any roofer. Having measured the length of the roof we size a width of the product which can easily be handled. It can be of about 3 feet. This is to be installed along the edge of the roof.

Another piece of this sheet is to be cut and laid in a manner that it over lay the existing one by two inches. Secure it with the nails. Repeat the process covering the entire roof. Along the edges of the roof, place the drip edges and secure them properly with nails every 8 inches.

Cut two strips from the roll roofing, each measuring 18 inches in width by the length of your roof and lay them width by the width of your roof. Apply the roofing cement around the edge of the roof. Lay the cut strips of rolled roofing along the edges of the roof so as to cover over the cement. Nail the strips down.

Bring the roll of rolled roofing onto the roof. Starting at the bottom, have one person hold the end of the roll at the edge of the roof. Roll out the rolled roofing material to cover the length of the roof horizontally.

Keeping the roll down, the length laid over the roof in cut. Make sure that the roofing material is in line with the roofing edge and nail it down in place. A cement coating under the edges of roof should fix the under laid material. It should be nailed every three inches after the first piece has been nailed.

Measure 33 inches above the top of the first piece and mark this with a chalk line. Install the second piece, aligning the top of it with the chalk line. This should give you a 3-inch overlap. Apply cement and nail down. Do the same for the other side of the roof as well.

Lay a strip on the peak of the roof, centering the piece so no seam runs along the tip of the peak. Glue and nail down this piece along both sides and edges.
