How To Dunk A BasketBall - The Definitive Guide

Every kid that ever played basketball wants to do the same thing, and that's DUNK THE BALL! It doesn't matter how tall you are, you still want to slam that ball through the hoop and scream at whoever was unlucky enough to be guarding you! The problem is, dunking is hard! Unless you are incredibly tall already, it's going to be hard for you to jump high enough to dunk it. And if you have small hands, it might not be possible to palm the ball (which makes dunking a little easier) and that means you will have to jump even higher or dunk it with two hands which also means you will have to jump higher. So what's a kid to do? Well, you need to build up certain muscles. Almost anyone can dunk it, if they build up the right muslces. Remember Spud Webb? That little point guard could dunk! I've seen it time and time again, short little dudes (and dudettes) dunking it against all odds. So it is possible. Even if you are not especially short, dunking is hard to do. So what should you focus on building up, when it comes to muscles? There are two or three main groups of muscles you want to focus on. Obviously the first one is your leg muscles. We're talking calf muscles for the most part. Any exercise you can do that builds up calf muscles is going to be beneficial to you. My favorite is stair jogging. Find yourself a nice long row of stairs (like 15 to 20 stairs or more) and then run up and down them for a half an hour every day. Your school gym is probably the best place to start, but if you don't have access to your school gym, then try the local park. I'm sure you can find a big staircase somewhere. Don't use the staircase in your house, as you will wear them out. You need sturdy stadium type stairs, or concrete stairs; something you can really sprint up and down and pound on. You might also supplement this workout with any weight training designed for calve muscles. Every little bit helps. The next two muscle groups to focus on may surprise you. They are the abs and the lower back muscles. Most people don't realize that the abs play a huge role in dunking. But if you think about it you will see why. The stronger your abs and lower back muscles, the higher you can jump. I'm not a doctor so I don't know why that is the case, but it is! So there you have it, focus on abs, lower back muscles, and calf muscles and you will be dunking like a pro in no time!About the Author:
