How To Efficiently Manage Your Time To Stay On Task
We all have some days that are better than others
. We all have days when we feel like we ran around for hours but got nothing done. This is often a result of poor time management. Fortunately, this does not need to be a permanent issue. Anybody can develop better time management skills and habits. You simple need to adjust your behaviors with a bit of hard work. It is also important to note that different methods of managing one's time do exist. It is important that you not give up if the first method you try doesn't work for you,it will take trial and error to find the right one. Here's a few things you can try to get you off to a good start.
Try first to see what your problem might be. For a few days, don't change anything. Simply jot down a list of the things you are doing, even when procrastination is involved. If you spend 20 minutes getting morning coffee, write it down. Do this for a weeks tasks. This will help you see which tasks are most likely wasting your time. Once you know this you can begin to see where you need the most change.
Schedule out your time for each day, week and month. It is important that you schedule in breaks, time to return emails and conference times. It will be easier to get into good time habits if your days are well structured. Training yourself to be productive during specific times of the day is easier this way. You will need to implement some diligence though. It may take a month but you will find that you are committed to this new way of thinking so much that it seems natural.
Don't discount the importance of scheduled breaks. Nobody can go full throttle all day long without it really wearing them down. Your brain and your body need a little bit of time every day to just sit and relax. So make sure you make time for at least a few breaks during your day and then make sure you take them. You will see just how much your mind and body will thrive with these little blips in the schedule. Your emotional health depends on these breaks. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.
It can feel quite disconcerting at first to learn good time management skills. You will begin to see that your hard work is helping you stay focused and on task. You never know you might just be as focused as the person you've always admired for having great time management skills. It is always a good idea to have some goals. Just don't go overboard. Leave time for fun in your life. RELAX often, play hard, work hard, have fun.
