Talk to your parents as soon as you've made up your mind that you're going to elope. Be prepared for an emotional reaction, and focus on the benefits of eloping. This can serve as your olive branch.

Include in your arguments that eloping will save you from spending too much on a huge wedding when it's not really necessary. Think how it will save you from the hassle of figuring out seating arrangements so that warring cousins or divorced aunt and uncles won't have to sit on the same table.

Keep Your Mother In Your Confidence Just because you're eloping doesn't mean that you have to keep everyone in the dark, tell your mom what's happening and ask her for inputs. Bring your mother when you shop for a wedding dress. Keep your parents engaged with all the personal details and decisions you make.

You Can Still Have Guests

Just because you're eloping doesn't mean that only the two of you should be present for the wedding, have your parents and best friends attend the ceremony. Additionally, you can always celebrate with friends and family later. Once the deed is done and you're truly married, let everyone know the happy news. Send out your announcements informing family and friends of your elopement. There's no point in hiding the fact now that the deed is done.

When and how you choose to celebrate is totally up to you. You can have a very conventional wedding, or you can make it simple, or maybe you'll save all your money for when you celebrate the first year of your life as a married couple. Couples who are short with money and cannot afford all the frills and ruffles of a traditional wedding still find eloping a very convenient way to get married. Additionally, holding the reception at a much later date gives the couple more time to prepare for the celebration, all the more so if the celebration will be held on their first wedding anniversary.
